Finding the perfect trousers can be difficult, especially when they all seem to fit in the wrong places and look nothing like you imagined online. I mean, don’t even get me started on the tortures of jean shopping. I have come to realise that if it’s fitted at the waist and loose on the legs then I’ll take five. If not just for the sheer ease of avoiding the changing room induced frustration for another season. It’s safe to say that I have a wardrobe full of tops and blouses, but I lack when it comes to bottoms – unless it’s denim, it’s the category I tend to avoid until I absolutely have to face it head on…
Nothing disheartens me more than finding what seemingly looks like the perfect pair of trousers or jeans – only to try them on and end up wrestling to make them fit properly. Either instant disappointment, or I manage to get them on and they just fit in all the wrong places – I’m usually stuck with a combination that’s too baggy at the waist and way too tight on the legs. This is usually followed by a rant of how most trousers/bottom garments are made for a certain body type, and I end up just giving up until another day. Having said that, I recently discovered a style of trouser that I have often avoided before now. The wide leg trouser – or the extra wide trouser as shown above. The thing that makes these so perfect is that they fit so nicely around the waist area, but then flow down the legs creating the illusion that you’re almost wearing a skirt. They also happen to be check print which is a huge trend again this season – I don’t really see it ever fading away as far as autumn/winter fashion is concerned. I have check print items from years ago that I dig out each year and still get as excited over – it’s definitely a print worth investing in, and one that works for everyone in my opinion. A classic amongst the a/w fashion scope of prints if you will.
I have mainly been pairing with mine with a simple black crop jumper – simple and casual, pretty much everything you’ve come to expect from me if you’ve been reading my blog for a while now. However, they also look lovely with a blouse tucked in, or a brown turtle neck to mix things up – add a black leather jacket and some heels and it’s a look that could carry you through to evening time with ease. There’s something really satisfying about floaty trousers that barely touch your legs – perfect for those days when you want to look put-together, but don’t fancy struggling into your usual jeans or black trousers. They have fast become a firm favourite in my wardrobe, and I’m excited for the challenge of styling them in lots of different ways over the coming months…
