I recently stuffed all my summer clothing away until next year, which meant saying goodbye to some of my most loved (and most worn) blouses of the last few months. Needless to say, my wardrobe was looking pretty empty by the end of my efforts – I hadn’t realised just quite how many overtly summer pieces I had picked up, and just how many of them wouldn’t work for the much cooler season ahead. However, there were a few pieces that saved the day – the trusty pyjama style blouse is, in my opinion, the ultimate transitional blouse…
This one from Mayla is perfect because it’s thin and floaty enough to enjoy during the summer months, but doubles up as a great A/W blouse too. The fact that’s it’s black automatically makes it suitable for dressier occasions, and instantly tranforms a pair of jeans into a smart-casual situation. Add a pair of pointed heels and nobody would know that it took you a whole ten minutes to get ready. A pyjama style blouse will always be a classic piece in my wardrobe – along with this one, I own a couple of silk ones by Sezane, and I wear them religiously. They are also great for layering under trench coats at this time of year, and even a jumper when things really start to get cold. Basically, if I could recommend one blouse to invest in right now, it would look a lot like this one.
I always feel like a bit of a one trick pony when it comes to my outfits – eighty percent of the time it’s some sort of denim piece with a blouse and a pair of block heels thrown in for good measure. It’s kind of where I feel the safest/most confident, and tends to be where I find myself stuck. Having said that – when you find something that works for you and makes you feel like the best version of yourself, there’s no shame in investing in that look so that you have a few different options to play around with. An outfit like this would also look really look with an oversized blazer thrown over the top and a chunky scarf – I’m still looking for the perfect one to add to my wardrobe this season, but I’m quite excited by this one by french brand Rouje. It dons that prince of Wales check that seems to be everywhere at the moment, and would look effortlessly cool paired with denim and a pair of statement boots…

I have no pyjama blouse in my wardrobe but I think it’s a mistake. That one you’re wearing looks great and makes me want to buy a similar item.
