I’d been searching for the perfect lightweight summer trench coat for sometime – something that wasn’t too thick and didn’t completely drown my outfit underneath. Something that I could throw on in a hurry without much thought, and would carry me through to the cooler months with a high neck jumper and jeans. I’d looked everywhere recently and a lot of them seemed to have quite trend lead features – ruffles, bows, and buttons galore, nothing seemed to be fitting the criteria in my head. I wanted that slouchy Birkin style fit that I’m endlessly chasing…
I then did something I don’t do all that often and went on the Zara website – I actually really love Zara as a brand in general, I think they make really great trend lead pieces that often look way more expensive than the price tag reflects! It’s just not often that I remember to check out the new collections when I’m in town, and I find the website quite hard to navigate – It’s definitely a brand that I prefer to experience in store! Especially since I’m normally a different size in everything I try on, sometimes a small can drown me, and sometimes I’ll need a medium. Having said all this, I recently had a very positive experience with my online order, and didn’t find that I needed to send a single thing back (shock horror). I was secretly hoping that I’d have to (sorry bank balance), but I’m SO happy with the pieces I picked up as I know I’ll get so much use out of them.
The first piece I got was this amazing polka dot dress (more polka dots, I know), and I don’t think I could love it more. It’s just a classic, flattering design, the floaty sleeves keep it light and summery, but the high neck feature means it will carry me through to autumn/winter with some tights and ankle boots. It would also look really nice with a pair of pointed ankle strap shoes for an easy little evening time ensemble. The second thing I instantly added to my basket was this trench coat – I’ve definitely found my idea of the perfect summer trench. It’s such a flowy/thin material, and even has splits at the side for added movement on those warmer days. I wasn’t expecting to wear it with the dress, but actually love how they look together, it’s the type of outfit that’s perfect for running about the city in. A trench just smartens everything up, but I feel like it still has that really cool, Parisian vibe to it – the ‘this old thing? I just threw this on’ sentiment that is endlessly coveted when I open my wardrobe each morning…
