To quote The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking” *insert eye roll emoji* – Meryl was right, and I have avoided most floral print items since my late teenage years. Stripes and polka dots always stuck, but florals seemed to be much more difficult to get right. Fast forward a few years and I’m wearing a floral midi dress and I’m absolutely in love with it…
Floral print seems to have had a complete make over recently/a bit of a modern refresh, and I’m more drawn to it than ever. That’s not to say I’ll be investing in numerous different pieces anytime soon, but floral has definitely been catching my eye lately. THIS dress for example – it’s the perfect Spring/Summer statement piece that my wardrobe was lacking. I feel like everyone needs a dress like this handy, it’s ideal for weddings, fancy events, or just for wearing around the house when you’re having a low day. Does anybody else dress up like that when they feel slightly on the rubbish side?…
I recently visited Paris for the night due to an exciting blogging trip. We got back to our hotel completely shattered but just about managed to catch the last bit of sunlight in time to shoot this dream dress. I’m not ashamed to admit that there was a time in my life when I was fully obsessed with Pride And Prejudice, and all I wanted to wear was silk slips and night gown style dresses – this dress definitely fulfills that fantasy, and I wouldn’t have felt too out of place on the set of a good old period drama. That brings me to another pipe dream of mine – to act in a period drama. Hilarious now because I’d probably be a horrible actress, but I marginally blame Kiera Knigtley in Atonement for this – her entire wardrobe in that film is heaven!
I love how this dress (any dress, who am I kidding?) looks against a basket bag, and I opted for my trusty black mules that haven’t been off my feet since I got them. I wore them box fresh for two days straight in Paris and they didn’t rub my feet once – I’m a fan of how they make any outfit a little less girly, and they tie this look together quite nicely in combination with the sunglasses! It’s not often that I put something on and instantly feel good about myself, but this dress definitely has that mood altering effect. It felt so magical to wander around the little side streets of Paris with the warm sun beaming down through the chiffon material, creating pretty shadows with every step…
