Throughout my early teenage years, I used to avoid midi skirts at all costs. I thought they were frumpy and unflattering, and that there was no possible way I could feel good in one. However, in recent years you can’t keep me away from a great midi skirt – I loved the pleated trend during Winter and wore my black pleated one endlessly with jumpers tucked in and pointed boots. Now that SS17 trends are well and truly underway, I thought it was time to update my little collection with a slightly more vibrant version….
I spotted this little beauty on the Sezane website and instantly fell in love with the design. I love that the print reminds me of cherries, and the slightly ruffled hem just adds a really flattering, almost Spanish feel to the skirt – definitely makes me feel like the “dancing red dress” emoji, which is always an outfit pro. It sits on that really flattering part of the waist, and I feel like it’s going to be a really versatile addition to my wardrobe as the Summer months unfold. For the daytime, I chose a simple white T-shirt to create that juxtaposition that I love so much in an outfit. It’s very much a chilled/laid back vibe on the top, then party on the bottom. You’re probably bored of seeing these Zara shoes by now, but I just find them so flattering, and they pretty much go with everything in my wardrobe!
I think a nice slogan tee and a midi skirt go hand I’m hand very nicely – it’s the type of look that easily transitions to evening time with a quick switch up of accessories. A leather jacket and a little cross body bag would do the trick – I’m not a big fan of looking like I’ve spent too much time getting ready for a night out. Midi skirts are my fail-safe and really make me feel more confident. I love wearing them in Summer time with Birkenstocks and little cami tops – they also look pretty darn cool with a pair of converse. If you’ve never worn one before and are feeling unsure – a little black midi skirt is a great place to start. It’s an absolute staple piece and will completely open up your wardrobe to a multitude of different outfit options! I’ve personally been loving this more statement version – I say statement as this is pretty ‘out there’ for me, I’m a creature of habit and I don’t often steer too far from my beloved ‘stripes and denim’ combo, but it feels pretty good when I do…
