A very short and sweet post to serve you my current favourite red lipstick combination! I’ve been sporting it quite a lot over the last few months, so I wanted to leave it here for those of you that might have missed it over on Instagram. It’s definitely a make-up favourite for me at this time of year, and I finally feel like I’ve found the ‘ultimate red lippy shade’ that’s comfortable enough to wear all day long…
I wear the lipstick shade ‘Red Hot Susan’ by the wonderful Charlotte Tilbury I’ve pretty much been recommending it to everyone and their Aunt lately! I typically use the ‘Walk Of Shame’ lip liner underneath unless I’m really in a rush (also by Charlotte Tilbury). I love the CT liners because I can slightly cheat the line of my lips for a more dramatic evening look and it doesn’t make it look like I’ve spent the afternoon at Clown School…
The formula is one of the most comfortable I’ve found, and somehow magically doesn’t leave my lips feeling like sandpaper by the end of the day. My top tip for a day/evening of red lipstick would be to use a lip scrub the night before – I really like the L’Occitane ‘raspberry crush’ one because it tastes like Afternoon Tea, or the Crabtree & Evelyn one because you can do it on the go – no sink or rinsing required. I tend to avoid harsh exfoliants (with buffing granules etc) on my face, but I really enjoy them in a lip scrub and it makes all the difference to the lipstick application if you have a smooth surface to begin with. I find that red lipstick is a life saver for those last minute social plans that always seem to creep up on us throughout the month of December. It instantly has the power to make a pair of jeans and a blouse look very chic and festive. Whether you’re off to a sit down dinner, or a spot of pub karaoke – a red lipstick has you covered…
