The concept of ‘glamour’ has always been a bit of a funny one for me. I’ve never considered myself to be a glamorous person, but I’ve always been attracted to the mystery that seems to radiate from a particularly glamorous person…
The Cambridge dictionary defines glamour as…
the special exciting and attractive quality of a person, place, or activity:
Who can resist the glamour of Hollywood?
I’ve always been fascinated by that old Hollywood glamour – when I watch old movies starring Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe, I marvel at how sparkly both their accessories and their personalities are. It’s a sense of fun and confidence that’s portrayed in a totally different way to being ‘chic’ or ‘cool’. To me, glamour has always been about playing a role that most of us don’t get to experience within our day to day lives…
As someone who lives in jeans and ‘masculine’ footwear – I’ve always liked to add little touches of glamour to my outfits that are unexpected. For instance, I love collecting fancy clip on earrings because they just totally elevate a simple outfit and take it in a whole new direction. It’s these sort of details that really make a persons outfit interesting to me because they give away a little hint of personality…
‘She’s wearing worn vintage jeans and a T-shirt but I noticed some fancy earrings when she tucked her hair behind her ear…’ – it’s a way of revealing more about yourself to observers without having to declare that ‘you like to be comfortable but dancing is never crossed off the agenda’…
Life in Manchester doesn’t always call for glamorous moments. Summer getaways or events are often my chance to play out an alter ego and to give the more glamorous pieces their moment. Whether it’s a fancy hat or balloon sleeve blouse – there’s something really playful about holiday glamour…
It’s character dressing at it’s finest, and a reminder to myself that clothing drastically has the power to change my mood…

I find the day-to-day glamour is hard to come by, I’ve always associated it with holidays or trips or special occasions! But every now and then we see or meet people that seem to embody it so effortlessly.
