I spent a few days in London last week with Catherine (my wonderful photographer but also a great friend) – travelling with her is such a dream, and I feel very lucky that the photography side of my job is such a breeze. It’s not always the funnest thing in the world, especially when you’re stood somewhere busy with people gawping at you like you’re from another planet, but my confidence definitely increases when I’m with someone that makes the process fun…
Anyway, we were kindly invited to stay in one of the UNCLE apartments in Elephant & Castle for a few nights – much appreciated when London hotel prices are a bit of a nightmare, and it’s often somewhere I need to be for work. I spend so much money on train tickets to London, so it’s always amazing when a PR will reach out and offer a place to stay. It meant that I could stay for a couple of full days, and really focus on shooting some new content, and getting to know London a little better…
It’s always a fleeting visit when it’s an event or a meeting of some kind – often leaving me with feelings of dread and anxiety whenever I get invited to something. I definitely want to change my London mindset, and start having more relaxed experiences there whenever I can. Thus, this trip was almost therapeutic in some way! I’m someone that gets very overwhelmed when I have too much going on at once, but I also need some sort of pressure in order to operate well and produce decent work. It’s a balancing act that I haven’t quite managed yet – I’m trying to put less pressure on myself when it’s unnecessary, but as a creative person, I always feel as though there’s more I could be doing…
It’s something I’m trying to teach myself to let go of. I don’t want to look back at my time as a blogger and associate it with stress and none stop content production. I want to see quality over quantity, and a space I carved out in the internet world that makes me feel proud…
Our amazing little flat was on the 40th floor of the UNCLE apartment block (woah there), and obviously came with sensational views of London. We got so lucky with the sunsets whilst we were there too – burnt orangey goodness that was on a whole new level. We quickly shot these after getting back in from central, in-between me taking my lipstick off (way to go continuity), and I love how they turned out. There’s something magical about those images you decide to take in the space of a few seconds – the ones where you don’t have time to check how you look beforehand, and you just have to let yourself be a little bit free…
It’s funny because most of my make up from the day had rubbed off by this point, and my hair was developing a life of it’s own, but somehow a sunset manages to hide a multitude of sins. I can’t wait to shoot in different locations over the summer – we are currently planning a mid May trip to Portugal so that we can shoot the new jewellery collection (in collaboration with Mikaela Lyons), and I’m so excited! In the meantime, lots of snaps from London coming your way…

Thank you so much! Definitely recommend heading to a vintage shop (when you’re in the jean shopping mood) and just trying on a big pile of them. The Beyond Retro in London is great xx
