I thought I’d share something I wrote about working from home. I definitely want to start sharing a different side to my writing on here – shorter posts that I write and never really do anything with. Posts that capture a feeling rather than share an outfit or an idea…
Working from home
I once won an award at primary school for being the fastest writer. I suppose I’ve always had this sense of urgency – an eagerness to get everything out of my head and onto the page in front of me. Right where I can see it.
I used to write endless short stories at my Gran’s old house. Monsters, witches, couples doomed in love.
I couldn’t see a time where I’d ever be stuck, or where my vivid imagination would ever fail me. The magic of being young, and knowing very few boundaries.
There are some days where I leap out of bed. Coffee, cereal, a head full of ideas…
Other days are harder to get going – or they don’t seem to get going at all. Mismatched loungewear, nothing substantial for lunch, a head that feels vacant..
I’m learning that that’s okay.
It’s funny that they call it freelancing because there are times when I don’t feel very free at all. In fact, my ideas feel trapped, up in the air, far away somewhere… out of reach. A constant battle of newness greets my anxiety each week – what next?
I remind myself that whatever comes next is up to me, and in that, I find the greatest freedom of all. The ideas start to flow. The cycle begins again.
No matter how tough it feels, there is a great sort of happiness to be found in creating things and sharing them with the world – no matter how insignificant they might seem.
Every idea counts. Every idea is a small victory.
