September and October happen to be two of my favourite months to dress for – the weather generally starts getting a bit cooler, and it starts to become acceptable to add a cardigan to every ensemble. However, it can be quite an overwhelming time of year in terms of newness, it feels impossible to avoid the endless sea of knitwear and ankle boots when scrolling on Instagram. It can be hard to figure out what you want your staples for the season ahead to be, and when to part with your hard earned dollar…
Two key pieces for me this year are going to be cord jackets and anything gingham left over from summer. I love how a cosy jacket looks teamed with a little sundress, and I’m determined to make some of my gingham pieces work for their place in my autumn/winter wardrobe. This Nineties gingham style dress is the perfect example – I’ll be taking it on holiday to Tuscany next week, but it looks equally as good on the streets of Manchester with some tights and chunky footwear.
The whole outfit almost has that ‘back to school’ vibe to it, and I’m more than cool with that. There’s something about this time of year that makes me feel very nostalgic. Maybe it’s just the sturdy pair of shoes and the gingham print that reminds me of my old school uniform…
I have to give this heavenly jacket a special mention too – I’d been stalking it for a while before taking the plunge, and I’m very glad that I did. It has a detachable faux fur brown collar (drools) that I can’t wait to wear closer to winter. It’s made from the softest material, and really is the perfect jacket to invest in at this time of year – I’m picturing it with high waist Levi jeans and and some snake print boots for a laid back weekend look with a slightly western feel…
Another new wardrobe addition has been this beautiful tan suede bag that I’ve been swinging around throughout this blog post. So many of you loved it when I showed you it in more detail over on Instagram, and rightly so. There was definitely space for a more sensible bag in my life, I mean, how many bucket bags does a girl really need? I can fit my laptop inside this one too, which excites me way more that it should…
I hope you enjoyed this little outfit break down, and that like me, you’re all looking forward to being able to layer clothing again (god bless you autumn). It’s almost time for me to start rewatching Twin Peaks, and basically every Nineties horror film ever made – too early to get excited for Halloween? I think not…
