I’ve mentioned it many times before, but summer dressing really doesn’t tend to be my forte – it’s not when my sense of personal style really comes into it’s own and it’s generally just not the time of year that I get the most joy out of styling outfits. I love summer and I’m a summer baby through and through (shout out to my fellow Cancerians) but when the temperature heats up, I tend to prioritise feeling comfortable over a certain aesthetic…
With this in mind, I thought I’d share my 2021 go-t0 summer outfit of choice – the humble shirt/short set, or ‘co-ord’ if you will. The two piece that can take you from desk to dusk depending on how you style it. It’s a combination I wear around the flat when I’m working to make me feel a little more pulled together, but it also looks great with some chunky sandals and a woven bag for running errands around town.
My current favourite set (if you’re after something classic that will last you for many summers to come) is this beautiful linen set by a brand called Luna And Rose. I got their willow shorts in the Macadamia style and then the matching shirt which also doubles up as a little summer jacket/looks great worn open over slip dresses etc. The shorts are just the most perfect summer shorts – they have a very flattering A-line sort of shape which means they don’t stick to your thighs (the worst) and look very chic with a long shirt and strappy sandals for the evening time!
I also recently picked up this striped pyjama set from Whistles and I’m hopefully going to wear it when I go on an holiday later this week (eek). I just think it will make the most perfect beach cover up – yes it’s technically pyjamas, but they definitely look too cool just to be used as sleepwear. I just think the bright blue stripes will look dreamy in the sunshine! It also looks really similar to some blue striped pieces that Ganni have been creating recently but with this set you’re getting two whole pieces that you can wear together or style separately. I’d actually really recommend checking the pyjama sections out in general because this Whistles set is proof that you can often pick up a little two piece that works just as good and nobody would ever really know the difference…
