I picked up this beautiful Matteau shirt a few months back with the idea that I’d save it as a ‘special holiday piece’ for when the time eventually comes around and we can travel abroad safely again. Alas, like most of us at the moment, I have no upcoming travel plans and I’m trying to come up with new ways to make the ordinary moments feel a bit more special. We are all masters of finding magic in the mundane at this point in the pandemic…
As soon as I saw this shirt I knew I had to have it – that doesn’t happen a lot these days, so when it does, I don’t normally think twice before making the purchase! It’s such a stunning lightweight silk material that feels like a second skin, but with a bold fig leaf print that really gives it a unique edge. It feels nostalgic and modern all at once and I’m so happy I managed to snap one up (it’s been v popular over on Instagram). I got mine via Browns for anyone that’s interested but Matteau are stocked across multiple different clothing websites such as Net a Porter & Farfetch so definitely save it to your wish lists if it’s a piece you’re pining after – it may come back into stock at some point!
It’s one of those pieces that I know I’ll wear in multiple different ways – it’s just the perfect summer piece! Whether it’s worn open over a black bikini or dressed up for the evening time with floaty shorts or tailored trousers. I’ve already worn it loads with jeans and a cardigan (pre heatwave), and more recently, worn open over long black midi dress with chunky sandals. It’s also one of those pieces that can be hand washed and air dried within the hour – especially during the summer heat!
They are such a gorgeous brand and one of the ones I always refer back to for swimwear at this time of year because everything looks so classic and elegant. I’ve made a little edit of some of my favourite Matteau pieces below incase you’re new to the brand/are currently in need of a little summer wardrobe inspiration…
I love the light in this pictures so much! We shot them in the gardens of a nearby wedding venue and it was the perfect location – so peaceful and we barely saw anyone whilst we were there. There was a huge tree that we sat under in-between shooting and it honestly felt like we were in France with my little gingham blanket laid out underneath us…
It was another reminder that you really don’t need to travel far to feel refreshed. I’m forever grateful for days like this – especially after the stagnancy of the past year. Exploring somewhere new (even for an afternoon) helps me feel closer to the creative part of me. The part of me that wants to keep seeking out adventure wherever possible, the part of me that wants to keep evolving…
