It’s no well kept secret that I love a striped shirt – I’ve owned many different variations of them over the years, and it’s truly become a piece that feels like home to me. I think it’s because it encompasses everything that I love about getting dressed in one simple piece – it’s got that french Rivera/summer holiday vibe to it whilst also having the ability to look super chic and classy. It’s timeless, and ageless, and suits everyone. It works all year round and is truly my most reached for/most worn piece! From a sleepshirt, job interview attire, and a cool beach cover up whenever I’ve forgotten one (always)… the humble striped shirt has become a wardrobe best friend, and one that I will never tire of updating…
I wanted to mention a couple of wonderful independent brands that I’ve discovered over the last year – first up being With Nothing Underneath who kindly sent me a couple of their beautiful pieces! I’m wearing ‘The Boyfriend’ shirt here in a size medium and it’s the perfect classic blue striped shirt if you’re in the market for one. WNU create all of their pieces from 100% organic materials and are continually striving to implement the most ethical and sustainable techniques and practices that they can. It’s always amazing to stumble across smaller brands with such strong ethical values – the shirts are so reasonably priced too, especially for pieces which I consider to be investment staple pieces that will last you a lifetime if you look after them well! (you can read their sustainability statement here).
I also have one of their new ‘Cabana’ style shirts which is just the ultimate summer holiday shirt – I have the Lapis blue linen style and I just can’t wait to wear it open over a bikini somewhere, or with a pair of loose fitting shorts, some chunky sandals, and a basket bag for those hot days in the city! I’m just so so impressed with this brand and the quality of their pieces that I’ve been itching to get my thoughts down in a blog post for you guys. If (like me) you’re into super simple/fuss free summer pieces that you can wear in multiple ways, I think you’re going to be smitten with WNU and their beautiful shirts. Next on my wish list has to be this Olive Linen shirt – I’m picturing it tied up with a black satin midi skirt and some strappy black heels for the perfect laid back summer evening look…
The second brand I discovered via the joys of Instagram is Yaitte – another brand who believes in slow and seasonless capsule collections. Their shirts are a bit on the pricer side in comparison to WNU and they have that slightly bolder/more traditionally ‘masculine’ style feel to them. I really want to treat myself to one for my birthday but can’t decide between this chunky green & white design or this more understated blue stripe cotton shirt. I know you’re probably thinking that I own shirts like this already but I can promise you that all the striped shirts I own are different…
