The restrictions are set to change here in the UK (as of next week) and it feels very strange indeed! Shops will start opening up again and we can go and sit in a beer garden/local park etc with up to six people. Although it still feels like we have a long way to go and I’m apprehensive about venturing out, it will be lovely to sit outside with some familiar faces when the opportunity arises…
It still feels impossible to plan for the summer months ahead and travel still looks unlikely, so I’ve been having a think about what sort of outfits I want to wear as the weather heats up. A lot of it will revolve around the pieces I didn’t get to wear last year, but I have been picking up a few new things here and there too. I think many of us feel as though we have forgotten how to dress after a year of home comforts and elasticated waistbands, so having a few pieces that you feel excited about is key…
My confidence has definitely take a knock over the past twelve months, so I’ve really been trying to make an effort to try on more outfits at home and play around with styling options. I then usually write down outfit ideas in my phone notes so that I have something to refer to when I’m feeling stuck. Despite it being a huge part of my job, I’m still the person who comically empties their wardrobe whenever I get an invitation somewhere and ends up having to sift through a sea of options. I then end up wearing the first thing I tried on and leave the frustrated mess I’ve made for my return. Making notes or taking a few mirror pictures of your outfits is key to avoiding this kind of outfit related stress! You could even create some mood boards with the staple pieces in your wardrobe and that way you can visually prepare wherever you happen to be…
A spring staple for me when the sun is shining will always be a midi/maxi length dress with a blazer or light jacket thrown over the top. It’s simple but looks put-together and you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion. For instance, if I was wearing some Superga and a piece of knitwear here it would be ideal for a picnic in the park or a little garden gathering – the blazer definitely makes it feel more appropriate for drinking outside a bar somewhere in the city centre…
This dress also looks lovely with a beige trench coat thrown over the top for a really classy spring/summer look. It’s by Christy Dawn and the colours look even more beautiful when the sun in shining. It’s that perfect rusty orange/retro inspired floral print and will serve me very well as a wedding guest outfit at some point! Christy Dawn is a beautiful sustainable brand based in sunny LA and I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking to treat yourself to a statement dress you can wear for many moons to come. Their pieces are all ethically produced & made to last from deadstock fabrics and organic cotton. I went with my usual size and I’m already itching to get another of their dreamy designs. I’ve linked some of my favourites below for you…
