As much as I love autumn/winter, I’m not ready to dig my long winter coats out of hibernation just yet! I like to leave that for as long as possible so that my shorter (slightly less snug) pieces get the love and attention they truly deserve…

I’m a fan of an oversized blazer all year round, and they really can work for those much chillier days with a big statement knit styled underneath! I’m so smitten with this Free People brown/houndstooth style jumper – it’s so incredibly soft and cosy, and one of those pieces that makes me look like I’ve made an effort because of the beautiful print. The orange trim pleases me greatly too – especially because it matches with this tan bucket bag that I’ve been using most days at the moment. It’s by the brand Ateliers Auguste and it pretty much fits everything plus the kitchen sink inside…

I think it’s little details like matching an element of your knitwear to your bag or shoes that really tie a slouchy outfit like this together and make it feel chic. It’s easy for oversized pieces to just look like a mass of material but breaking up the colours/patterns can really create the most magical autumnal aesthetic!

I’ve also been wearing these Me+Em slouchy pinstripe trousers a lot and they feel very nostalgic because I used to have a navy pinstripe pair of trousers that I lived in years ago. I’m very fussy when it comes to trousers but I love the fit of these are they are much tighter at the waist line which makes them a great evening option with a blouse tucked in and some heeled loafers. Me+Em are such a beautiful brand and the quality of everything is always gorgeous – they are definitely one of my favourite websites to visit at this time of year, and I find the cut of their pieces to be endlessly flattering…

And finally, a note on these incredible Alexa Chung boots that I purchased last year! They have been such a great investment because not only are they super comfortable/suitable for the Manchester weather – the white stitching detail/laces make them a really great styling option for brightening up darker outfits. I love how they look poking out of these oversized trousers and I just don’t think a darker looking boot would have worked as well. They basically feel like a slightly dressier version of your average black stomping boot, so I’d definitely recommend going for something with stitching for a smarter take on the oversized boot!

It’s the finer details that make the biggest of difference (in life, but also when it comes to a great outfit…
