This weeks heatwave is already shaping up to be pretty intense! When the temperature reaches a certain level, the last thing I feel like doing is putting outfits together. In fact, just leave me anywhere there’s a giant body of cool water, or an abundance of fans pointing in my direction…
As much as I’m a child of the summer (July baby over here), my heart really does lie with autumn fashion. I love layering, and I’ve never been totally comfortable in tiny dresses or short shorts. It’s just not the way I’m wired – give me floaty pieces that can see me through a red hot week in the city without sticking to my body please.
So what do I do when it’s super hot in Manchester? I stick to my summer uniform of a linen midi skirt with a knotted up blouse. It’s been tried and tested many times over the years at this point, and it’s truly the outfit that makes me feel my best. Even when I feel like heading to the nearest supermarket and climbing inside the ice cream fridge…
I recently picked up this Mango skirt with Glastonbury in mind but never ended up wearing it. I’m so glad I invested because it’s such a beautiful colour for summer – it’s so different to any other skirts that I own, and I love how it looks with this vintage animal print blouse. The colours work so well together and it’s one of those rare occasions where I feel as though an outfit I put together (for a super hot day) actually makes me feel like myself. It’s Nineties inspired but still neutral enough to feel like something I won’t get bored of for many summers to come…
I’m also really glad I have this vintage Tod’s bag in my life. I picked it up for an absolute steal on Etsy earlier this year, and it’s served me so well with so many different looks! I love that it has a patent texture about it too because I just know it will continue to be a favourite when autumn/winter rolls around. That being said, there’s something about patent glowing in the sunshine that really does it for me. It feels a bit like breaking the rules…
What really finished off this look was how wild my hair was the day we shot these images (true Nineties Mom mode). It’s safe to say that my hair has a mind of it’s own – particularly when the weather heats up. I sort of like letting go of how it looks though. It’s curly, and frizzy, and a little bit wild at times, but it’s kind of empowering to just let it do it’s own thing and accept it in it’s natural state…
I hope you enjoyed this look as always! And I hope those of you that are currently embracing a heatwave are staying safe/having ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and tea…
