Despite blogging/outfit arranging being my full time job, I’m guilty of being quite lazy when it comes to mixing up my looks each day – half asleep and usually in need of coffee, I grab whichever jeans are closest to me and work from there. Denim has pretty much always been my starting piece of choice when it comes to composing an everyday outfit – there’s one combination in particular that I wear at least once a week, and probably will do for the rest of time…

A great pair of high waist jeans teamed with a black jumper and some black boots – it’s my complete and utter fail-safe for those days where I’m in a rush or practically getting dressed in the dark. They are all pieces that most of us have somewhere in our wardrobe, and they don’t cost the earth to get hold of. Whether they are investment pieces or slightly trend lead – we pretty much all have them lying around somewhere. It’s the combination I’m likely to pack with me on every weekend away no matter what the itinerary, and it’s usually the outfit I settle on when I’ve tried on seven previous outfits beforehand, and simply can’t make up my mind. It might not be the most exciting of outfits but it’s reliable and always looks endlessly chic – nobody can really argue with denim and simple black accessories. They are the foundations of my wardrobe and it’s always worth having a few options handy.

Once you’ve got this simple combination down it’s easy to throw on a statement jacket and accessories to make it appear as though your outfit is more considered – a little shearling jacket like the one above is perfect for this time of year! I love the autumnal shade – it ties the whole outfit together nicely and stops it from being too dull. These types of jackets are really accessible too, pretty much every high street, charity, or vintage shop is likely to sell some variation of it. There’s something really understated and cool about a contrast collar too – I also always feel like Ryan Gosling when I wear a jacket like this, which can obviously only ever be a good thing…
