Getting invited to places is hard if you’re someone who lives their life in high waist denim. Ahh the dreaded no dress code invite that pops up unexpectedly every now and then – how I dread you. It always reminds me how much my style relies on the same simple combinations, and makes me wish I owned an array of way fancier shoes. Truth is, most of my shoes are black, and most of the clothing I own flips between super laid back or city inspired. Recently I had a huge wardrobe clear out so that I could make room for some new season pieces. I quickly realised that if I got invited to a wedding or any kind of fancy occasion, I would running around town like a headless chicken trying to find something last minute. In other words, my wardrobe was practically advertising a vacancy for something a little…
This is where ruffles come into play – in particular, a clash of the two to create the ultimate match made in heaven. I picked these ruffle waist trousers up a week or so ago and wasn’t quite sure what I’d wear them with. The fit and colour completely sold me, and originally I pictured them with a crop cream cable knit for an interesting daytime look. I feel as though these are the perfect style trousers to invest in for the autumn/winter months ahead. Wear them with slouchy jumpers and boots during the daytime for a look that’s cosy but put-together, or switch them up with a cream statement blouse and pointed heels for that evening event. I love how the colours compliment each other – then my trusty Staud bag just adds that added colour splash for added playfulness.
I’ve worn this little bag so much already and it’s received so many compliments – surprisingly from both men and women! Everyone seems to be of the opinion that it’s ‘very cute’ and I obviously couldn’t agree more. It’s such a good size for me and fits all the essentials, but instantly makes each outfit look more stylish. Something which I rely on a lot when I live in jeans and blouses – investing in statement bags is not something I’m about to regret. There’s also something really effortlessly vintage about understated ruffles – summer saw lots of huge oversized fancy affairs, but I’m quite enjoying a more refined look to keep things simple and timeless. Layer some delicate gold jewellery and I feel like this outfit is really to wear for a multitude of occasions…
